WE’RE DONE PAYING FOR THEIR MISTAKES
For too long, those in power have let corporations squeeze working families from every direction. They’ve taken your money, hollowed out your community, and silenced your voice. Enough is enough. I’m running for Georgia Senate District 46 to be your voice and fight for the changes that Georgia so desperately needs.
About Ray
Ray Smith is a software engineer, community organizer, and lifelong Georgian with deep roots in the Athens area. His family’s connection to the region spans over a century. His great-great-grandparents settled in Jackson County in 1906 and in Athens itself, and his grandmother was born there. Both of his parents, and his sister, are all University of Georgia graduates, and Ray continued that tradition with a degree in computer science from UGA.
Ray currently serves as Second Vice Chair of the Oconee County Democrats and holds leadership roles with Indivisible Georgia District 10 and the Unitarian Universalist Georgia Legislative Action Network, where he advocates for progressive legislation at the state level. He is also a co-founder of Community Works Oconee, a nonprofit dedicated to solving local problems through community action.
With nearly a decade of experience as a software engineer, Ray recently launched a consulting practice focused on helping nonprofits and political organizations make better use of technology.
A dedicated father, he lives in Oconee County with his wife and two year old son.
Taking Back Our Power
YOUR MONEY
I’ll fight to keep more in your pocket.
Georgia Power raises your rates while posting record profits. Health insurance premiums climb while coverage shrinks. Rent goes up because out-of-state investors are buying houses faster than families can. From utilities to healthcare to housing, the squeeze is relentless.
I’ll fight for real oversight of utility rates, expand healthcare access, and take on the corporate landlords driving up costs.
YOUR COMMUNITY
I’ll fight to rebuild and strengthen local economies.
Small farms get squeezed by corporate giants who control everything from seeds to grocery shelves. Main street storefronts sit empty while big-box sprawl drains our tax base. Rural hospitals close because the legislature refuses to act.
I’ll fight to support small businesses and family farms, invest in downtown development that actually pays for itself, and finally expand Medicaid to save our rural hospitals.
YOUR VOICE
I’ll fight to make sure that you’re heard.
When corporations break the law, they get away with it. When workers try to organize for better pay, they get crushed. When you show up to a Public Service Commission hearing, they’ve already made their decision.
I’ll fight to restore your access to the courts, protect workers’ right to organize, and bring real accountability to state government.
